Holi falls on the full moon (Purnima) of the lunar month of Phalguna and welcomes spring. The night before (Holika Dahan) marks the burning of the demoness Holika; the day itself is celebrated with coloured powder and water.
It is one of the most widely observed festivals in India and among Indian communities worldwide.
